Many of us love older cars. Not just ANY older car, but specific cars. I shall ask you, however, to dig deep into your automotive knowledge and come up with your favorite vehicle made in the year you came out of your mother's life-giving groin.
The car doesn't have to premier the year of your birth, it just has to be of like year model. Also, you can list a couple if there's a close two-way tie. I won't judge you if you tell me that you ABSOLUTELY ADORE the Toyota Corolla made on your birthday. Others might, however. Prepare yourselves for alternative suggestions.
I have two different vehicles that tie for the top spot. The first is that sweet sweet 1977 Firebird shown above. The second is the Ford Bronco, because... Well, just because.
What's your favorite?

The 1984 Aston Martin Lagonda. It's just so outrageous.

It's a tie between these two:
the 1993 Subaru SVX, and...
the 1993 Ford Escort RS Cosworth

It's basically a no-brainer... for me at least.

Does this count? If we're talking street cars only, then it's the R32 Skyline.

The 1991 LeMans winner, the Mazda 787B, of course!

1995 wasn't a great year for cars, but apparently no one told the Japanese; R33 GT-R, FD RX7, NSX, Supra, 300ZX, Integra Type R...
But above all else I've wanted a second gen MR2 even since I learned of their existence.

Easy choice here- 1992 Camaro Z28 in mystic teal metallic. It's a common color on the lower rs cars but fairly rare in Z28's. would love to have one. It would bring me closer to my goal of owning one camaro of each generation.

LOL I had street cars in mind, but I'll accept your answer. If it's your favorite, it's your favorite.

1983 Countach.
But the Lambo's already been mentioned twice, so here's the '83 Saab 900 convertible concept.

Despite the fact that they peaked the year before and emissions controls were strangling the life out of the segment, I'd still take a 1972 Roadrunner.

1988 Suburban. Nearly the end for the solid front axle. The last "real" suburban IMO.

1987 was a pretty good year for cars, but I would probably have to say this guy.

I'm gonna be weird.
1995 Saab 9000 Aero. Classy design, and faster than you might think. Also, it's a Saab.

Of course, 1992...tough decision.
First, there's the GMC Typhoon. 4.3L V6 with a Mitsubishi turbo in a performance oriented version of the Jimmy.
Then, there's the Jaguar XJ220. A sleek supercar with a top speed of 213 mph out of a twin-turbocharged V6.
There was also the car that truly was the 'everyman's' Alfa Romeo, the 155. A car that would go on to be one of, if not the most successful modern race car from Alfa Romeo, taking touring car championships in Italy, Germany, Britain, and Spain.
Of course, I'm sure some of you would choose the most professional car introduced in '92, the Ford Crown Victoria Police Interceptor.
Or maybe the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution is more your thing, or the HSV GTS.
But, if I was to choose my favorite from the year I was born...it would have to be the McLaren F1.

1993. Honourable mentions:

In HS, a buddy of mine had an old baby blue 1976 Suburban with a 454. It used to be 4WD, but the transfer case broke and they never repaired it. That damn thing would go through anything: mud, dirt, a dense grove of medium-sized trees...
![]() 01/10/2014 at 12:33 |
|
haha got a good laugh out of the tree bit. I've always considered selling my FJ80 to get one of these instead. Although I find this a more desirable vehicle (especially given the engine possibilities) I can't seem to part ways with my first car.
![]() 01/10/2014 at 12:38 |

Easy.
1975.
![]() 01/10/2014 at 12:42 |

That would be a fun restoration. Small suspension lift, 33" BFG A/Ts, new engine (the possibilities on what motor to put in it are many), 5-6 speed newer transmission... MY GOD I WANT ONE NOW!!!
![]() 01/10/2014 at 12:43 |

As I'm just a year off of you I won't try to steal your Pontiac Firechicken TA. The Pantera was around that year as well as the Porsche 912. The mid 70's didn't have much to offer, I think.
![]() 01/10/2014 at 12:46 |

What am I saying?
1976 Saab 96 V4.

1978.
Huge full-size cars. Shitty shitboxes. Gaudy special edition graphics on everything. Disco.
BMW M1.
![]() 01/10/2014 at 12:47 |

You can take the Firebirdchicken too. It's all good.
And, admittedly, no there weren't a lot of awesome cars in the mid-late '70s. But it makes our choices so much easier.
![]() 01/10/2014 at 12:50 |
|
I feel silly for not thinking of the Saab 96. My first one was a 70 and the next two I will own are mid 60's cars, I forget that it was made till 1980. I guess I'd have to select the 96 V4 or a GLE Saab 99 from 1976.
![]() 01/10/2014 at 12:55 |

Perhaps the 1987 Buick GNX

Of the cars offered in America for 1983?
Worldwide?

Both are choice selections. 1993, however, was a VERY GOOD year for Broncos, especially in white.

1994 Diablo
Or a 964 Turbo with a slant nose here(I'd go for the normal nose tho)

Incredible car, my favorite McLaren F1 car by a long way.

I take the 930 please.
![]() 01/10/2014 at 14:11 |

I'd probably do that as well, the reliability issue with the Lagonda makes that car something I'd love to have so I could look at it and sit in it, but not drive on a daily basis.
![]() 01/10/2014 at 14:36 |

I had an 89 version of this truck, saved my life and was ungodly amounts of fun with its 5spd manual, 4 wheel drive, knobby tire goodness. I would use it for going back and cutting up wood, was small and easy to maneuver and never got stuck/stranded me. Even when the starter fell off and the rear driveshaft snapped from an angry drop of the clutch, it wouldn't die. And when I Tboned someone who didn't stop at a stop sign going 55 mph, it gave it's life but kept the cab in tact. Needless to say I loved that truck even with all of its flaws.
Btw, I was born in 1990 and owned the truck in 2011

As a fellow 1972'r I'd have to go with Alfa Romeo GTV.

I know! Embarassing. All I can say in my defence was, it was 2am - thats not really an excuse though is it? I'll fetch my Seppuku kit.
I plan on getting a LR later this year actually. Not a Series like the one pictured (which I actually think looks better), but a Defender, which at least has the potential to reach the speed limit.

1982 Camaro with the iron duke and the 3 speed automatic. 0-60 in 20 seconds. I like shitty cars.

There are basically two answers, and the pivotal year is 1990: Since I'm a 1985 model year myself, I'm going with the Jeep Wagoneer, but for anyone after '90, it'd be the Miata, of course.
(not mine, I've only ever owned a '73 Wagoneer, but this was a good picture of a rare 80's model without paneling)
